Project Highlight: The Blue Fin Fishing Club, Brisbane

Polished Concrete Floors in a Brisbane RestaurantProject Background

The Blue Fin Fishing Club in Inala, Brisbane has undergone a large renovation project, which included the installation of polished concrete floors in their dining areas.
The initial floor, installed by an alternative contractor, was a coated polished concrete system with a non-slip grit applied to the coating. Unfortunately the qualities of the works initially installed by this contractor were deemed unsatisfactory and required rectification. Transitions was contracted to complete these rectification works.

Client Objective

The Blue Fin Fishing Club were extremely unhappy with the polished concrete floors that had been installed in their restaurant/bistro; the centrepiece of the refurbishment in this area. The previous company contracted to install and finish the polished concrete floor had attempted, on 3 separate occasions, to rectify the works and failed to do so to the standard expected of a licensed contractor. The Blue Fin Fishing Club required an immediate rectification of the floor so that it was both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Client Requirements

Polished Concrete Floors in a Brisbane Restaurant

As the polished concrete floor is in an area that receives a large amount of foot traffic, regularly, it needs to be very hard wearing. In terms of health and safety, the floor also required a minimum R10 slip rating, helping to prevent against slips and falls in the restaurant. Furthermore, The Blue Fin Fishing Club required a low maintenance flooring option that is easy to maintain and keep clean.

Chosen Product

Transitions Mechanically Polished Concrete was the flooring product of choice for this rectification. The floor already incorporated full exposure of aggregate, thus the installation of Transitions Mechanically Polished Concrete enhanced the look of the concrete and highlighted this choice of aggregate immensely. Furthermore, it was able to achieve the required slip rating (R10) without the addition of a non-slip grit in the sealer, as would be required in a coated system. All products used to harden and seal the floor were low VOC.

Overall Outcome

All works were complete within a time period of 3days, whilst the club was in full operation. The completed floor had the ability to be utilised within 6hours of works being completed by Transitions.

The Blue Fin Fishing Club were very pleased with the rectification of the polished concrete floor presented to them by Transitions. The new floor ticked all the boxes for the client and finally provided them with the beautiful product they had envisaged during the planning of their clubs refurbishment.
